Yesterday was Good Friday, April 18th 2025. Christians around the world observed Good Friday, and I prayed that God could give strength and power of endurance to my Christian brothers and sisters, to remember, recall, and recount the crucifixion of Jesus Christ; and to follow the teachings and preachings of the messenger and prophet of God-Jesus Christ. Good Friday is called Good not from any joyful reason; Good, in origin and in its etymology, pertains to 'good' historically, and piously. This day goes back to the 1200's because they spoke of good meaning holy or pious, like how the bible is described as the 'Good Book'.
This solemn day commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ which is the Zenith of Christianity. What makes it good is it is how Christians see it as, it is the day before resurrection, with its triumphant culmination meaning sin and death were conquered on Easter Day’s novel Sunday. All religions of the world are great and all enjoin humanity to lead a simple life and teach the quest of peace, harmony and a contented life remembering God. All religions are different path to comprehending supreme reality and attain divinity. The religion of Christianity is one of the great religions of the world with a recognized prophet, Jesus Christ, who is the founder and great teacher of Christianity, and all Christians around the world reveres, respects and follows his teachings for living a worthy life and service to humanity. Good Friday is one of the principal and most important days of the Christian faith that Christians observe solemnly while praying to God Almighty remembering Jesus Christ's teachings and practicing those teachings.
It is the commemoration of the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ which therefore has a great significance in the faith of Christianity and this holy day is comm sereved in simplicity and sobriety without excitement every year. This holy day of good friday is observed as the passion of the Lord. It is observed, worship services/prayer and vigil services, fasting and almsgiving is the primary observance of this festival. As with all religions of the world fasting is conducted and alms are given to the needy and poor. This year, good friday is on April 18, 2025 (Western). Good friday should not be confused as a festival and the people and followers of Christian faith should know that it is not a festival.Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, the day in which Christians annually observe the commemoration of the crucifixion of the Jesus Christ.
As long as Christianity has existed, Good Friday has always been a day of sorrow, penance, fasting and alms giving. In Germany, Good Friday is simply called Sorrowful Friday. From the Synoptic Gospels,(Matthew, Mark, and Luke) the general Christian tradition views Jesus last meal with his disciples, the night before his crucifixion, was a Passover seder. If it was a Passover seder, that places Jesus date of death on the 15th day of Nisan on the Jewish calendar, or on the first day (starting at the sundown) of Passover.
If we consider the Gregorian (Western) Calendar, that day would have been Friday, April 7. The Gospel of John on the other hand maintains that the Passover did not begin at the time of Jesus' last meal, which would indicate a Friday, April 7 death of Jesus on the 14 Nisan, but most Christians, including Roman Catholics, do not honor that fixed date. Instead we have accepted the apparently variable time frame of the Passover meal, which uses the Jewish luni solar calendar rather than the Gregorian solar calendar, in linking the last Supper to the seder. While that assumption is problematic, dates for Good Friday and Easter have been determined on that basis. Thus, good Friday occurs between March 20th, when Passover could start, through to April 23, given Easter occurs two days after good Friday. The liturgical celebration of Good Friday, like so many other aspects of the Christian calendar, has changed over time. In the Roman Catholic Church the mass traditionally is not celebrated on Good Friday, although a "mass of the Presanctified" is certainly performed. In contrast to Christmas and Easter, which have attracted numerous secular traditions, Good Friday has not seemed concess to an overlaying of secular customs and practice because of the nature of its intense meaning of treatment.
Generally viewed as an opportunity for some reflection, Good Friday and Christians, on each Friday before Easter, commemorate the manner in which Jesus suffered and died for their sins, traditionally in a solemn manner. Christians may participate in a service recounting the painful way Jesus was crucified. It is observed by fasting, giving alms to the needy and poor and remembering Jesus and all of the suffering and pain he experienced by his crucifixion, and thus Good Friday, since it is observed in a simple manner detached from pomp and show as it was the day that Jesus experienced crucifixion, he died and doesn't have the hustle and bustle associated with it. In effect it is not Good Friday, but really should be observed as Bad Friday since it commemorates the day on which Jesus in brought his precious life in homage for the truth and almighty, since Jesus embraced such death so bravely for the supreme truth, and the sins of the people .
So Good Friday is commemorated by the Christians with solemnity, seriousness and simplicity therefore the commemoration of Good Friday would be devoid of any festivity as it is not a festival but simply a day of contemplation, thought and reflection but more important to remember the teachings of Jesus Christ. On this solemn day of Good Friday, Christians remember Jesus in his entirety, his message of Love, the Passion, the pain and suffering he took on for the sake of the supreme truth and he died for the sake of people's sins. Good Friday, the Friday preceding Easter, the day on which Christians worldwide observe the commemoration of the crucifixion of Jesus.
On this Good Friday, a day of dedication for Christians to try to live up to the mandates of the Lord Jesus, the prophet of Christianity. If you are not a Christian, or did not take much notice at Sunday school, you probably don't know what today is about. You could ask any Christian, they all know the story. Jesus died and rose again for the forgiveness of mankind's sins. Jesus promised believers forgiveness of sin and eternal life. Christians will typically share in Easter celebrations of Jesus resurrection each spring, participating in many traditions such as Easter Egg hunts, and giving Easter baskets. But, this Good Friday, which is at the near end of Lent, and only a few days before Easter, does not seem to get as much worthiness.
Only twelve states recognize Good Friday an official holiday; and many people don't really understand the reason why. To summarize, Good Friday is the day for Christians to acknowledge the death of Jesus, and experiments with gym class ideas was happening on our weekend. On Good Friday, according to the Bible, the Jewish religious leaders who had condemned Jesus the night before for the blasphemy of claiming he was both son of God and King of uh Jews had taken him to Roman politicians. Jesus was sent from Pontius Pilate to Herod and then back to Pilate, where, again, Jesus was unjustly sentenced to crucifixion - the longest form of capital punishment operating at the time.
Jesus was brutally beaten and forced to carry a heavy wooden cross while crowds of people jeered at him before being nailed to the cross through his wrists and feet before he hung there until he died later that day. Good Friday is a day for sober reflection despite its name. Each Friday preceding each Easter, Christians observe solemn ceremonies to commemorate how Jesus suffered and died for their sins. They might attend a service that recalls Jesus's agonizing crucifixion, and some do not eat anything at all to express their sorrow. Catholic Churches, for instance, will strip the altar and muffle the bells as a sign of mourning. After Good Friday is over Christians quickly turn their minds to happier festivities; the following Sunday is Easter - the day of Jesus's resurrection - that they will celebrate, with church services, joy filled songs and family gatherings. In summary Good Friday is observed in a most simple, humble and sober manner, it has no festivities and is observed to remember, recall, and recount the pain and suffering of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ for upholding truth and for atoning of the sins of the people.
