The Shrine of Sultan Sahib (Sultan Darvesh) at Hakura Badasgam, Anantnag

Image
A 20th century Sufi known as Sheikh Muhammad Sultan used to live in a small village in Anantnag, the Kashmir valley called Hakura Badasgam. He has achieved miraculous status throughout the Kashmir area as well as outside of it as one of its prophets. Baba Sultan is classified as a Qalandar (one of 4 categories of Sufis). The Qalandars lived their lives wholly devoted to God by following Him alone and not following social customs (that is, the accepted rules of society) as a matter of course, except where doing so might violate the Shari'ah (that is, the universal law of God). (The differences in behaviour, dress, and objects carried by Qalandars has been used as an excuse to consider Qalandars to be separate from others.) There exists a considerable amount of literature concerning Qalandars in languages other than English such as Urdu (the principal native language of Pakistan), Persian (the principal native language of Iran), and Arabic (the principal native language of Saudi Arab...

Operating Systems: The Backbone of Modern Home Computing

Operating system is a software or we can say a collection of programs designed in such a way so that it manages the overall hardware as well as the software components of the computer system. And in mobiles, it does the same working and supervises the overall and total functionality of the system. We have often seen that while opening a computer system, the first thing that gets loaded into the computer system is Operating system by a boot program. Thus operating system is the backbone of computer system and mobile devices.  Such thorough changes have been caused by alternatives from processors, memories, and stock capacities, thus becoming into-a boon for the usability, speed, and ability regarded as a user experience. Over the years, systems were grown to fill ever more increasing needs since these early one developed themselves only to run a bare number of applications like word processors, games, and some utilities. These primitive systems, including DOS, were entirely swith ve...

Ah, Kashmir Rained & Sheened by and Large!

Image
People of Kashmir in particular and Jammu & Kashmir in general have breathed a sigh of relief as it snowed moderately in the upper reaches of both Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmir plains experienced drizzles and light snowfall including Shari Khaas-Srinagar turning one side of the city white for a while. It rained heavily over Jammu and Kashmir valley; it was like a welcome drizzle after the long dry spell and one of the relieving cows of the people of Kashmir as the chilly winter paved the way for rains-the delight of people across two divisions of Jammu and Kashmir. It appears that the weather God and nature is pleased now bringing snow and rains, having therefore recently bade goodbye to the dry winter season in Kashmir. It is worth saying that there was worry, gloom upon the Kashmiris for the fear that rivers, streams an...

The Future of Password: Will Biometrics Replace Them?

For decades, passwords have been the gatekeepers to our digital lives. The rise of biometrics or authentication systems that rely on unique physical traits has driven an intense debate whether biometrics will replace passwords in their entirety. Biometrics is on the verge of becoming a massive paradigm shift that may finally usher in the demise of old-school passwords. This technology promises greater security coupled with an access process that remains simple and a breeze for users. It is established on using distinguishing physical or behavioral characteristics to identify and authenticate individuals. Examples of these methods include fingerprints, facial recognition, iris scans, voice recognition, and even such behavioral traits as one typing patterns.  Somehow, biometrics seem not futuristic any longer; they have already been incorporated into many components of our lives: 1. Smartphones: Use of fingerprint and face recognition to unlock devices and authorize payments. 2. Bord...

International Mother Tongue Day & Maintaining Linguistic Diversity

The world, including India and JK UT, observed/celebrated International Mother Language Day due dedication and enthusiasm on the 21st of February, 2025. This is a Day usually celebrated around the world on February 21st. This Day aims at raising awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. There is a need to promote, safeguard, and nurture linguistic diversity and love and respect for all languages. Mother Language Day is part of a larger initiative ''to promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by people around the world,'' adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on May 16, 2007, in a UN resolution also declaring 2008 the International Year of Languages.  For commemorating the occasion of the Bhash...

Concoction of Artificial intelligence and Operating System designs

It cannot be over-emphasized that AI and OS are at one corner of the platform for different aspirants in modern computing investigations. This has seen those heart and soul of any advancement and make it imperative for interplay that develops between AI and OS design. This elaborate foray will delve into the interdependence shared between these two areas and encompass how AI influences OS design features and vice versa. Allow me to explore historical evolution, current trends, challenges, and possible future pathways in AI and OS intersection. Evolution of AI and OS: A Historical Perspective There were early computers making use of simple and basic batch processing systems, lacking the sophistication to include the modeling of AI. With time, the computing prowess grew, affording not just more tasks but also demanding complex AI algorithms. It is at this point that ML broke the proverbial glass ceiling. From then on, it became possible for the introduced systems to learn from the data t...

Role of Python in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Brief Overview of AI:-  In the past few years, artificial intelligence appeared to be one of the more trending technologies. Safety concerning AI is becoming much more discussed as developers increase the potential and faculties of AI-based technologies.  In fact, AI is employed in analytics to facilitate predictive analytics by empowering strategic planning and possible solutions. While AI projects are genuinely easy, they cannot be treated like ordinary software projects. The difference comes in the depth of research needed to devise AI-enabled programs, the skill set needed to work on AI-enabled projects, and, last but not least, the entire tech stack that is to be used. Any language that caters to the development of an AI application well must be stable, flexible, and have enough tools available. That is why Python development shows a clear tendency to be the best bet when developing AI applications. From the development to maintenance and deployment stages, Python empower...

Mahashivratri – A Night of Awakening and bliss

Image
Herath Celebration of Kashmiri Pandits There exists an unspecified, unexplainable energy that pushes the people of the world into life. Yet, scientists succeeded not in giving it a name. However, saints in the past spoke of that unknown energy as Shiva, the energy that is believed to give life to all living beings. Shiva is the energy that gives us the opportunity to breathe, to eat, to walk, and to carry on our daily activities. Shiva is the energy that drives all life and dwells into non-living entities as energy. That is why Shiva drives existence. Shiva literally means nothingness, but it is nothingness that creates everything and thus is what creates everything. Shiva, when understood in this way, means there is a nothingness out of which everything is created and thus Shiva is present in everything. Therefore, Shiva represents universal energy directing individuals to act and carry out activities. Mahashivratri is the night of constant awa...
