Ladakhi Apricot - Wonder Fruit

Image
One of the most nutritious, enjoyable and commercially valuable fruit crops in Ladakh, apricot (Prunus armeniaca) locally called as "chulli" is grown across a substantial area of Ladakh with major distribution found in Sham areas (lower Ladakh). These locations include Dha-Hanu, Garkhon, Skurbuchan, Domkhar, Wanla, Khaltse and Timosgang. Ladakh is thought to have received its first apricot from either China or Central Asia about 100 years ago. Now it is one of the most desirable and commercially grown crops in Ladakh, making it an important crop to the people of Ladakh. Due to the apricot's unique, hardy/tolerant and durable characteristics, apricot trees will grow in many different environments and very different soil types in Ladakh that all have low nutrition and water available and which are located in an arid region known locally as "Cold Desert." The apricot tree can grow to a height of approximately 4-7 m, has heart-shaped leaves and produces flowers in t...

Electricity playing hide and seek in India

(Junction of wires on a single electric pole)

One fails to understand are the people of Gole Gujral and adjoining areas the children of lesser Gods? It seems that because of this conception about the consumers of these areas by the PDD, and JKPDCL, the public suffers most while the concerned authorities are only seem to be interested in collecting huge amounts of money as electricity charges. The electricity in Gole Gujral, its adjoining areas such as Bank Coloney, Gobind Nagar, Amar Coloney Phase Ist and 2nd, Aman Vihar, Ajit Nagar its extension, Munshi Chack etc is conspicuous by its absence. The electricity in these areas is playing hide and seek with the consumers forcing them to pass days without electricity in these days of scorching heat and intense humidity thus putting the public of all these and other nearby areas to great inconvenience and suffering for no fault of theirs. The electricity consumers of these places are paying electricity charges as the honest consumers. But the PDD, JKPDC is not providing electricity to these areas as per the need and necessity and thus the people of all these areas suffer for want of proper electricity. When the consumers pay electricity due in time, then the JKPDC has no right to curtail electricity and off and on stop the electric supply at its whims and caprice.

The consumers of these areas are facing acute shortage of electricity and they re forced to pass the days and nights without electricity or have to compromise with the scant and scarce power. Recently Chief Engineer (Distribution) JPDCL Jammu informed the public through press  that the power supply to Grid station Canal, Pouni chack, Katra, Reasi, Rajouri, Draba, Jourian and Baran will remain off on August 29 and 30 from 6 am to 6 pm on continuous basis. Electricity consumers are realising the difficulty arisen due to incessant rains and so cooperate with the authorities and thus bear the hardship due to the continuous stoppage of electricity supply to the areas concerned. But to the utter disgust and inconvenience of the consumers, JKPDCL has stopped power supply on 29  August 2025 from 6 am and it was understandable as per the information given in the local press. However on the same day power was supplied to the consumers of above mentioned areas at 7 pm which is beyond the thinking of the public of these areas and to the dismay of the consumers the electricity was stopped at about 10bpm and then the power supply was snapped whole night and then power supply was restored at 4 am of August 30 and then stopped again at 4.15 am instead of 6 am as informed through press and then for the whole day electricity remained off and the PDCL did not restore power supply to the above mentioned areas at 6 pm.

One is at a loss to understand as to why the electricity supply was kept continuously snapped on 31st of August and barring for one or two hours, the electric supply remained snapped and then power was supplied at 12 pm of 31st August. Since then the JKPDCL is playing the game of hide and seek of the electricity with the consumers. The consumers of all these and other adjoining areas have suffered and are still suffering for the want of continuous power supply best known to the PDD and JKPDCL  and other authorities concerned. It clearly seems that the JKPDCL is not interested in collecting huge amount of electricity dues from the consumers and they have no regard and respect for the consumers and they least bother for provision of uninterrupted power supply to the public. The public of the above mentioned areas are facing much inconvenience, suffering and trouble because of frequent power cuts. Scheduled and unscheduled power cuts as well as continuous interruptions of power supply keeps the honest consumers at the tenter hooks and they are made to suffer for want of electricity. It seems that the JKPDCL & PDD are supplying uninterrupted  electricity  to the posh colonies such as Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar and such other colonies where perhaps the blue eyed people reside and the power supply to them is the top priority of the authorities while the people living in other colonies and places face continuous power outage and uninterrupted electricity which causes them much inconvenience and suffering while they honestly pay the electricity dues at the inflated rates as per the whims, wishes and dictates of the PDCL which is sheer injustice and glaring discrimination with the people residing in the above mentioned areas.

JKPDCL & PDD has no right to snap electricity off and on and play hide and seek of electricity with the consumers.Public of Gole Gujral ,Bank colony, Gobind Nagar, Amar Colony, Aman Vihar  Phase 1st and 2nd Ajit colony its extension, Munshi check and other adjoining areas are suffering for the want of adequate and uninterrupted power supply. It seems that PDD, JKPDCL and other related agencies are playing with the ease and convenience of the people as they are supplying power to these areas as per the convenience of the authorities and not as per the needs and requirement of the public of these areas. PDD, JKPDCL should realise their responsibility and duty and provide uninterrupted electricity to at least the smart metered areas so that the consumers of these areas get some relief from continuous power outage and continuous power curtailments which has become the fait accomplice of the people of these areas. The public of these areas have suffered at lot on 29th August, 30th August and thereafter also and currently the power supply to these areas is inadequate as per the needs and requirements of the public.

The power supply is snapped on and off and continuously putting people of these areas to untold suffering and hardships because of inadequate power supply. It is the duty and responsibility of PDD and JKPDCL to provide uninterrupted power supply to consumers so that they feel a sigh of relief. JKPDCL is working like a profit making organisation with least regard to the convenience and demands of the power consumers. It is appealed to LG, Chief minister, Power minister that action as warranted under rules should be taken against Chief Engineer Power (Distribution) and other line executives of JKPDCL and PDD so that they are made to pay for their follies as they have snapped electricity to these areas continuously beyond the information given to the public through press. Public of the above mentioned areas have faced worst suffering due to the apathy of the authorities. The concerned agencies of the power Development Department should provide uninterrupted power supply at least to smart metered areas as it is their responsibility and duty.
