Alas Moral Values Eroding Fast!

Morality and ethics is the thing that differentiates the human beings from the animal kingdom although men and women have a superior thinking power which also differentiates people from animals. Morality or the moral values is the base of a civilised rather cultured society and without moral code we are as good as animals. People should stick to moral code of conduct and never deviate from the path of morality even if it means some economic loss. Despite the monetary loss we should not leave morality but conduct ourselves in such a manner as to strengthen morality and we should do nothing to weaken the moral fabric of the society. But unfortunately there is moral crisis in  society as we are far from moral values and principles with the result there remains no difference between humans and animals. There is moral perversion in society and for this deteriorating of moral values in society all of us are responsible and at the same time our parents ,teachers ,educational system ,our curricula and last but not the least we ourselves are responsible for the moral degradation and moral bankruptcy in the society. At the outset we should know what exactly is moral crisis. A moral crisis is a widespread decline or conflict in a society’s established ethical values and norms ,leading to increased corruption, societal instability, and a breakdown of social cohesion ,often exacerbated by shifts in social conditions ,the erosion of trust in leaders ,and misdirection of education and values .It manifests as a disconnect between espoused principles and actual practices ,requiring collective reflection to identify the deep philosophical roots of ethical decline and find paths forward to restore integrity and social harmony. In fact moral crisis is a widespread decline or erosion of ethical values and principles within a society .leading to loss of social cohesion and an increase in corruption and societal breakdown .It is characterised by a lack of consensus on what is right or wrong, a deterioration of traditional ethical standards ,and a perceived failure to uphold moral obligations ,impacting areas from family life to environmental sustainability.

The key characteristics of moral crisis are as under—A—Deterioration of value system—A Society experiencing a moral crisis sees its core values and principles weakening, which can manifest as increased crime, corruption, adulteration and dishonesty. B---Lack of ethical consensus—There is widespread disagreement on basic moral values, leading to uncertainty about how to act and a breakdown of shared ethical framework .C—Erosion of social Norms---Traditional societal norms and standards of conduct are undermined, leading to increased societal agitation and a weakening of social cohesion. D---Failure to meet obligations—A moral crisis can involve a collective failure to fulfil moral responsibilities ,such as providing quality education ,nurturing children ,or protecting the environment.  Causes and contributing Factors—The following are the causes which lead to moral crisis—A—Cultural Shifts—Globalization ,exposure to diverse cultural influences, and a societal shift towards individualism and materialism can challenge and undermine traditional ethical standards.=B—Focus on Materialism—An overemphasis on academic achievement and material success at the expense of overall child development can lead to a decline in value education. C—Technological Developments—Emerging technologies ,like AI ,present new moral dilemmas ,raising questions about the ethical framework AI should fallow. D—Environmental Neglect—A failure to adhere to ethical principles in interactions with the environment has led to ecological destruction and calls for a shift towards ethical conduct for sustainability.

Consequences of a Moral crisis—A—Societal Breakdown—Moral crisis can lead to heightened societal tensions, corruption, and a breakdown of the social order. B—Increased Misery—A decline in values like cooperation, honesty and discipline can result in further suffering and misery for mankind. C-Erosion of Trust—The lack of consensus and ethical accountability can erode trust between individuals and institutions.

Addressing a Moral crisis—A—Value -Based Education—Re-emphasizing value education from childhood, focussing on principles like justice, equality, and sharing is crucial. B—Historical Precedents---Historical movements ,such as the Bhakti movement in India ,show that addressing moral crisis through promoting values of love, equality, and human welfare can lead to solutions C—Fostering Cohesion—Efforts to strengthen social cohesion and maintain integrity are essential during moral crisis .D—Ethical Framework---Developing and adhering to ethical codes of conduct, such As for sustainable practices or for AI ,provides a way forward.

Moral crisis is a situation where pervasive ethical or moral principles are questioned ,challenged ,or significantly decline, leading to a breakdown of established norms and societal integrity .It can occur on personal ,collective or societal levels, manifesting as uncertainty ,conflict over right and wrong ,increased corruption, or a significant shift in collective attitudes and behaviours from traditional ethical standards .In modern era it refers to the widespread uncertainty and divergence in moral values and ethical frameworks that become increasingly apparent in contemporary society. Moral principles affect a person’s capacity to distinguish between good and wrong and assist them in making daily. Declining moral values in our society can be fought by providing value, ethical and moral education, so that our children become morally and ethically sound in order to be the responsible and moral icons for others .So moral degradation in the society can be best addressed by providing  moral and value  education to the children in schools so that they imbibe morality and it can later on reshape the personality of the students in such a way that their personalities become moral compass  worthy of emulation by others and in this way it will result into demonstrational effect and other students and people will also become morally fit. The school efforts in the direction of imparting moral education can and should be supplemented by the religious and moral and character lessons by the religious Gurus and religious leaders. One thing is worth mentioning that morality cannot be imposed from the above and for the growth of morality in the society ,the necessary efforts should be made by schools and religious organisations as well as by religious Gurus so that eroding moral values give way to morality and ethics in the society. Lack of moral values and their fast erosion can be made good by moral and religious education so that our schools produce morally and culturally strong students who will be pour future leaders and can shape moral ,social. cultural and ethical foundations on which our country can establish morally right individuals.  Moral principles are ingrained in humans, assisting them in distinguishing between right and wrong and guiding them towards being upright citizens. To conclude we can say that we should not prey to moral erosion and should uphold morality and ethics at all costs and we should never compromise on morality but embrace ethical and moral standards and norms for becoming good citizens.
