PM Modi's Fourth Visit to UK

 

This is the fourth and landmark visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to United Kingdom since he took over the power in India in 2014.  Modi was given a grand reception by a large diaspora of Indians Modi was greeted with traditional Indian dances. He also met the winners of Bharat ko Janyai contests organised by the external affairs ministry of India.The prime minister of India will sign a number of bilateral agreements during his stay in England. The current visit of Modi to UK will give further boost to the bilateral relations between India and British and the eyes of the world are watching this visit of PM Modi to UK. This marks the fourth official visit of PM Modi to UK reaffirming the growing depth and breadth of India UK ties particularly in defence innovation healthcare education and diaspora engagement. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday landed in London for a two visit to UK marking the first leg of his two nation tour. PM Modi expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic reception by the Indian community during his visit calling their affection and commitment to Indias progress truly hearting.  Touched by the warm welcome from Indian community in the UK Their affection and passion towards Indias progress is truly hearting said Modi in social media post X.  The prime minister met his counterpart Kier Starmer and other key leaders and discussed several key issues including the Free Traders Agreement FTA between the two countries. PM Modi embarked on a two nation visit on Wednesday begining with a official tour to the United Kingdom at the invitation of PM Kier Starmer from July 23-24.. This marks PM Modi's Fourth visit to UK the growing momentum in India U.K ties. 

India and UK share a strong and steadily growing economic partnership reflected in robust trade figures and expanding investment flows Bilateral trade between the two countries stood at approximately dollar 53.75 billion in 2024 with Indian exports valued at around dollar 32.5 billion and imports at about at dollar 21.5 billion. While the services sector accounted for nearly dollar 31.25 billion. A big development in bilateral economic relations has been the successful conclusion of Indo UK FTA and the Double Contribution Convention. These landmark announcements were made during telephonic conversation between the two PMs on May 6 2025 following three years of negotiations. The FTA one of India's most comprehensive. spans 26 chapters covering sectors such as goods services rules of origin intellectual property rights government procurements digital trade telecom financial services environment and labor. Two institutional mechanisms have played a pivotal role during the Indo UK economic agenda. The free Trade agreement will be India's first major bilateral trade deal with a developed country in over ten years. It is most important trade deal with UK signed since leaving EU. The talks on the deal concluded in May after three years of back and forth negotiations.

Now both the countries have officially signed the agreement on 24 July in London and it is expected to double bilateral trade from the current 60 billion dollars to 120 billion dollars. PM Modi met UK PM keir Starmer and also called on King Charles 111. The discussions touched upon regional and global developments of mutual concern. For 200 years, British shaped India's trade rules to its advantage plundering it's raw material taxing salt killing of industries in the name of free markets. Now as post Brexit UK shops around firms India has become a prized dance partner. Now brand India was put on global map.  The 13th EFD meeting was held in London on April 2022 & led by finance ministers of both countries. The two countries hope that deal will boost trade between them by 25:5 billion pounds.The UK and India have signed a trade agreement that will reduce tariffs on goods from textiles to whisky card and spices and allow more market access for businesses. British PM Kier Starmer hailed the agreement as a landmark moment for both countries India and UK trade ministers Jonathan Reynolds and Piyush Goel formally signed the agreement FTA.  This is not the extent of limit of our collaboration with India said Starmer. He further said we have unique bond of history of family and of culture and we want to strengthen our relationship further so that it is even more ambitious modern and focussed on long term. To conclude it can be said that for India the deal represents its biggest strategic partnership with an advanced economy.
