Christian festival of Easter

Easter is one of the most significant and sacred festivals celebrated by Christians around the world. It marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, a cornerstone of the Christian faith that symbolizes hope, renewal, and victory over sin and death. According to the New Testament of the Bible, Jesus was crucified on Good Friday and rose from dead on the third day Easter Sunday. His resurrection fulfilled the prophecy of the Messiah and confirmed the belief in eternal life for all who follow His teachings. Easter therefore, is not only a celebration of Jesus return to life but also a message of spiritual rebirth and triumph of good over evil. Easter is preceded by ‘’Holy Week’,’ which recounts the final days of Jesus earthly life. It begins with ‘’Palm Sunday’’ commemorating His entry into Jerusalem. ’’Maundy, Thursday’ ’honors the Last Supper, while ‘’Good Friday’ ’solemnly reflects on the crucifixion. Finally, Easter Sunday arrives with joyous celebrations of the resurrection. On this auspicious occasion Churches around the world hold special services on Easter Sunday, often featuring hymns, readings, and the lighting of candles to represent Jesus as the light of the world. In many cultures, Easter is also a time for feasting and family gatherings. Though rooted in Christian traditions, the message of Easter transcends religious boundaries. It remains humanity of the power of faith, the promise of new beginnings, and the importance of compassion and forgiveness. In both Western and Eastern Christianity, Easter tide, the Easter or Paschal season, begins on Easter Sunday and lasts seven weeks, ending with the coming of the 50th day, Pentecost Sunday, but in Eastern Christianity the leave taking of the feast is on the 39th day, the day before the Feast of the Ascension. Easter and its related holidays are movable feasts, not falling on a fixed date, its date is computed based on a lunisolar calendar [solar year plus Moon phase] similar to the Hebrew calendar, generating a number of controversies. The first Council of Nicaea [325] established on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox. Even if calculated on the basis of the Gregorian calendar, the date of that full moon sometimes differs from that of the astronomical first full moon after the March equinox. The English term may derive from the Anglo-Saxon goddess name Eostre, Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover by its name [Hebrew],Aramaic are the basis of the term Pascha]by its origin [according to the synoptic Gospels, both the crucifixion and the resurrection took place during the [week of Passover] and much of its symbolism ,as well as by its position in the calendar .In most European languages ,both the Christian Easter and the Jewish Passover are called by the same name ,and in the older English translations of the Bible ,as well ,the term Easter was used to translate Passover. Easter traditions vary across the Christian world ,and include sunrise services or late-night vigils ,exclamations and exchanges of Paschal greetings, following the cross ,the wearing of Easter bonnets by women, clipping the Church ,and the decoration .As Christians around the world celebrate Easter each year, they not only honor the resurrection of Christ but also embrace the hope and renewal it brings to their lives and communities. In brief Easter gives us the message of hope, positivity, compassion, forgiveness and above all the eternal values of righteousness.
