The Shrine of Sultan Sahib (Sultan Darvesh) at Hakura Badasgam, Anantnag

Image
A 20th century Sufi known as Sheikh Muhammad Sultan used to live in a small village in Anantnag, the Kashmir valley called Hakura Badasgam. He has achieved miraculous status throughout the Kashmir area as well as outside of it as one of its prophets. Baba Sultan is classified as a Qalandar (one of 4 categories of Sufis). The Qalandars lived their lives wholly devoted to God by following Him alone and not following social customs (that is, the accepted rules of society) as a matter of course, except where doing so might violate the Shari'ah (that is, the universal law of God). (The differences in behaviour, dress, and objects carried by Qalandars has been used as an excuse to consider Qalandars to be separate from others.) There exists a considerable amount of literature concerning Qalandars in languages other than English such as Urdu (the principal native language of Pakistan), Persian (the principal native language of Iran), and Arabic (the principal native language of Saudi Arab...

Need for Value Education

We are living in such a society where there is total deterioration in the moral values and people have stooped too low and are indulging in such activities which speak of the moral degradation. Dishonesty and corruption is the order of the day while Political hygiene is thing of the past. This trend can be arrested in full measure only by providing moral education to the children and younger generation. The laws of the country can help to some extent in curbing such moral decay. Therefore only education rather moral education is the panacea to build a morally and spiritually us and this is good social fabric. Thus moral education is the need of the hour. Education is taken by the modern day society as the bread and butter providing only. It fallows that until you provide value and moral education to the children you cannot lay a strong moral edifice in the society. Thus along with the education for livelihood we have to provide to children the sound moral and spiritual educ...

Significance of Diwali

Lore, Legend and Symbolism of Diwali  Diwali or Deepavali is the "festival of lights" & it marks the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. It is that festival when entire India is transformed into a land of unlimited lamps. The festival is one of the big festival of Hindus, with its versions being celebrated in other Indian religions. Diwali is not so much an issue of external observance; it's a time to illuminate the inner lamp, charge oneself, and remove the physical and mental sloth which tends to cling to winter.  The 13th day of Kartika month is the Diwali festival. Conventionally, its reason is that on this day one is supposed to offer respects to Dhanavantri - the god committed to one's health and wellbeing. Dhanavantri these days is nearly synonymous with the doctor. The god Dhana...

Exploring the world of Artificial Intelligence

In the early 21st century came a revolutionizing arrival that would alter the very course of human existence – the genesis of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This groundwork-breaking technological evolution was reckoned with the unification of human creativity with computational faculties, giving machinery the ability to learn, reason, and adapt. Its arrival has brought with it promises of unprecedented innovation and efficiency amidst debates on ethical implications, social change, danger, and the nature of work and intelligence itself. It is all thanks to the likes of computer scientists, including Alan Turing, Marvin Minsky and John McCarthy, that this journey began some seventy-or-so years ago. It indeed is a catch phrase today-but what d...
